Gus RodgersFOUNDER & DIRECTOR
I founded BiBO in the firm belief that technology could enhance the wine experience. I have a diverse background, previously working for a historic building restoration trust; my fascination with old buildings is matched by a love of mature bottles. I enjoy learning, attaining both the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations, and have completed Strategy in the Age of Digital Disruption, an INSEAD programme. Outside of my professional life I love surrealist art and reading, especially about behavioural psychology. My other passions are family, food and travel, ideally combined.
Ellese BullockOPERATIONS DIRECTOR
My career within the wine industry started in 2016 when I joined London City Bond’s Vinotheque site. Throughout my time with LCB, I learnt everything there was to know about warehousing and logistics, being promoted onto their Management team. I joined BiBO as Operations Director to further expand my knowledge within wine. Outside of work, I enjoy renovation projects and visiting new places abroad with my family. I thrive on being challenged and pride myself on my determination to understand all contributing factors of a situation.
Sacha WheelerCHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER (CTO)
I’m not really into wine, I mostly drink beer and tequila. My other hobbies are making music, doing maths, taking photographs and building electronics. I have 2 summa cum laude bachelor degrees in fine art and 4 A grades at A’ level in sciences (maths 1, 2 & 3 and physics), and a career full of online startups, some of which I sold. I enjoy shaping technology to serve my team’s needs, and I really like this team.
Ross JohnsonHEAD OF PURCHASING
I love wine, especially white Burgundies and mature Champagnes, and pursued it as a career after deciding against following my MA in literature with a PHD. I really enjoy the purchasing side, working with clients and exceptional wines across the world. I spent much of my childhood in French wine shops with my father, and a year in Venice whilst studying. I still read a lot (Inside Burgundy and Balzac in equal measure), and enjoy watching and playing cricket – although I am a tail-end batsman who can’t bowl.
Jake LeightonHEAD OF PRIVATE CLIENTS AND INVESTMENTS
After studying at Newcastle University I first managed a vineyard in Kent, producing some quite average sparkling wine! The novelty of hand-pruning 10,000 vines quickly wears off, so I then completed my WSET’s. This opened my mind to the obvious opportunity of investing in wine, and whilst I still love wine, I really enjoy the turning-passion-into-a-profit side of the business. When not at work I play golf badly.
Thomas HawkinsHEAD OF TRADING
I initially left the insurance industry in the city looking for a more exciting career, and now have 12 years of experience in the trade. I’m still passionate about continuing to learn about this vast subject. I love working with the world’s best wines and trading with other merchants in all corners of the globe. Away from the office, I’m a proud family man, and long-suffering Arsenal fan.
Jim BaxterHEAD OF AUCTIONS
My love of wine began at a young age, visiting vineyards with my grandparents, who then encouraged me to try the wine (once I was old enough!). I was involved with organising the first Wine Future conference in Rioja whilst completing my university’s year abroad. I am Level 4 WSET certified, and also a qualified yoga teacher.
