Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 90
Tasted at Fine Wine Experience’s Clos des Ducs vertical. Used very little new oak and the earliest harvest since 1894. Just showing the first signs of ageing on the rim. The nose is far more generous than the ’05, with dark berried fruit, dried fig, a touch of cranberry and wild hedgerow. Very fine definition, showing no sign of ageing. Touches of cooked meat, a little tertiary perhaps. The palate has a soft, supple entry, good acidity with a sweet ripe, feminine wild strawberry and tart cherry towards the finish that just lacks a little complexity and is too linear and shows a little heat. Moderate length. This is a great success in the context of the vintage, although it requires another 3-4 years ageing. Drink 2013-2022+

Vinous 91
Harvested 25th-29th of August: Much fresher than expected, with bright red fruit and no traces of sur maturité on the nose. Well balanced, though the finish is just slightly dry. Even in this hot year the Ducs precision and minerality shows through. Guillaume d’Angerville notes that the Clos des Ducs has a spring near the middle of the vineyard that tends to prevent hydric stress in hot dry years.
