Bright, deep red-ruby. Liqueur-like black cherry, minerals, mocha and chocolate on the nose. Round on the attack, then thick, spherical and utterly mouthfilling, showing the chocolatey richness of the year. Conveys a restrained sweetness but nonetheless comes across as almost heavy. Finishes with big, youthfully drying tannins.

The 2009 Griotte-Chambertin is a touch more delicate in its bouquet than the Charmes, but then the fruit hits the palate. This is a tense, weighty wine that at the same time reveals stunning length. Floral notes add lift on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
