Tasting Notes
Robert Parker 90-92
“There are just 19 barrels of the 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots-du-Milieu from 3.9 hectares of vine this year. It has a tightly wound bouquet, less flamboyant and vigorous compared to recent years, with blackberry and boysenberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, supple blackberry and blueberry notes caressing the senses with a lovely silky texture on the finish. Very fine, even if I do have a preference for the domaine’s Champans this year.”

Vinous 93/100
The 2016 Volnay Santenots-les-Milieu 1er Cru has a complex and engaging bouquet with hints of meat juices and black olive filtering through the mixture of red and black fruit. There is plenty of Volnay character here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, juicy and ripe with black cherries, raspberry and hints of spice towards the finish. Wonderful cohesion here from start to finish, with a caressing aftertaste, this is a beautifully crafted Volnay from Dominique Lafon. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy.
